Dave Weston Junior is a young rally sensation from Aberdeen in Scotland, known affectionately to rally fans as “Junior.”
With his father Dave Weston Senior also a well known face in rally circles, when Dave was born on 25th August 1990 he certainly had motorsport in his blood.
At the age of 14 he began competing in Junior Rallycross aiming to learn about car control, before switching that knowledge to rallying in 2007 when he finished third in Group N behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta ST on his first event, the Plains Rally.
It was only a matter of months before Dave stepped up from national to international stages, contesting the British round of the World Rally Championship, Wales Rally GB, which he successfully finished on his first attempt.
In 2008 Dave switched to a Subaru Impreza N12 and contested various events to master four-wheel drive. One of his greatest achievements that year was to finish fourth overall on Trackrod Rally Yorkshire, an event on which he swapped times with the top drivers in the British Rally Championship.
His year ended on a massive high when he was gifted the chance to contest his second Wales Rally GB – this time behind the wheel of his father’s Ford Focus World Rally Car, when his father was unable to compete. He took another successful WRC finish despite only driving the car for the first time on the world class event.
It is this world stage that Dave aims to become a regular competitor on in the future. With that in mind he used the 2009 season as a learning year in the British Rally Championship, during which he impressed his rallying peers with his times on the stages and his outstanding attitude towards the sport. He finished the season fourth overall in the championship in his Subaru Impreza N14.
As usual Dave ended the year with an outing on Rally of Great Britain (formerly Wales Rally GB), and added a run on the inaugural British round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, Rally of Scotland. On the Scottish event he ran as high up the order as fourth overall behind IRC winner Kris Meeke, and former British champions Guy Wilks and Alister McRae.
For 2010 Dave is armed with a Subaru Impreza N2010 and is contesting the British Rally Championship as part of the Ramsport team, as well as selected WRC and IRC events. Having already been a member of the MSA British Rally Academy, Dave is now a member of the prestigious MSA Team UK, a group of young rally and racing competitors who have been chosen as the best in the country to be developed into motorsport stars of the future
